Located in Zhejiang Province, China, Liruo is a quiet little village, living on the fishing industry from the Ming Dynasty of China. The village sits on a series of cliffs by the East China Sea. More than fifty stones houses two hundred years ago, narrow allies, and a lot of stairs made the village life inaccessible and inconvenient.
Liruo has been going through an economic decline for many years, in part due to urban decay, in which young, educated people move away from the city for better options. Excessive fishing and ocean pollution accelerate the pace of decaying.
How to connect the physically and socially connect the different demographic groups and different community activities are the key to revitalize the village. By connecting and decluttering the village, this project provides a series safer, more accessible and more dynamic community spaces.
